Nursery Plans

November-December 09

The first half of this term was a busy and enjoyable time for all. After settling into the routine, we explored the changing season through songs and creative activities, and used ‘Goldilocks and the three Bears’ and ‘The Gingerbread Man’ as a starting point for story-telling, role-play, play dough activities and cooking, to name a few! Below are some of the ideas for this half term. They are all starting points for learning and may lead on to a whole host of other activities. As always, please see our ‘This week’ sheet in the cloakroom or ask a member of staff for more details about the planned play each week. If you have anything at home that you think may be useful for our themes, please have a word with a member of staff. Thank you!

·                 Fireworks – Creating artwork using bright colours on dark paper, listening to

poems and rhymes and joining in with actions and repeated words, moving like

fireworks and responding to sound words e.g. whoosh, bang, crackle, fizz,

whee,etc

·        Rockets and space – Listening to the story ‘Whatever Next’ by Jill Murphy,

using the story as a starting point for role-play and other creative activities

e.g. making model rockets and playing picnics.

·        Dark and Light – Talking about night and day; discussing and finding out about

sources of light such as torches, stars, the sun and moon etc; experiencing light

in dark places by using torches, fibre optic lights and decorative lights for

Christmas.

Christmas – stories, celebration songs, role-play and artwork.

We will be continuing to observe and listen to the children at play. We will be using this information on a daily basis to provide resources and activities to meet the children’s current interests and needs. Please let us know if there is anything that your child is really enjoying at the moment and we will try to extend this interest at Nursery.
