Rainbow Class - Autumn Term 2009

Welcome to the Autumn Term, September 2009. The themes this Term will be Autumn and Food. We will be thinking about changes in the seasons from Summer to Autumn and we will be exploring the outdoor environment. We will investigate foods associated with Harvest and intend to visit the local allotments and the local market. There will be nature/topic display tables in the classroom and we will collect and explore vegetables and fruit. We will taste and cook them. The children will listen to stories and poems about Autumn and food and look at information books. Next half-term as the days get shorter and Winter approaches, the children will learn about day and night, animals and hibernation. As the term progresses we will find out about festivals of Light, including Divali, listen to stories and music. We will encourage the children to act out stories they have heard and to create pictures. As Christmas approaches the children will begin learning songs and enjoy Christmas activities. There will be opportunities for parents to come into school during the term to socialise, to view the children’s work and to share some of our celebrations.
