Numeracy in year 1 Spring term

Weeks 1 and 2
Counting, partitioning and calculating.
Counting reliably to 20. Reading, writing and ordering numbers to 20. Using knowledge of place value to position numbers on number lines and number tracks. Using language of 1 more / 1 less up to 20. Using the vocabulary and symbols (+, -, =) in relation to addition and subtraction number sentences. Solving problems involving counting, adding, subtracting, doubling or halving using numbers, measures or money e..g. to pay and give change.
Weeks 3, 4 and 5
Securing number facts and understanding shape.
Describing simple patterns involving numbers or shapes. Addition of two numbers to 10 – number bonds (9+1, 8+2, 7+3, etc). Solving problems involving counting, adding, subtracting, doubling or halving using numbers, measures or money e.g. to pay and give change. Say the number that is1 more or less than a given number and 10 more or less for multiplies of 10. Recall doubles of all numbers to at least 10.
Visualising common 2D shapes and 3D solids. Describing their features and using them to make patterns, pictures and models.
Weeks 6 and 7
Handling data and measures
Describing ways of solving puzzles and problems orally and using pictures. Answering questions by recording information in lists and tables and then presenting the results using pictures, block graphs or pictograms.
Estimating, then measuring / weighing objects as well as comparing / ordering them with other objects. Using the language of measurement, e.g. longer than / shorter than, heavier than / lighter than, etc.
Weeks 8 and 9
Calculating, measuring and understanding shape
Solving problems involving counting, adding, subtracting in the context of numbers and money and   measuring. Relate addition to ‘counting on’. and subtraction as ‘take away’ and find a ‘difference’ by counting up. Estimate, measure, weigh and compare objects using measuring instruments.
Identify objects that turn about a point (scissors) or a line (door). Recognise and make whole, half and quarter turns. Using everyday language to describe the position of objects and the direction and distance when moving them. Use everyday language to describe the position of objects and direction and distance when moving them.
Understanding and using the vocabulary relating to the measurement of time – hours, half hours, days of the week, yesterday, today and tomorrow.
Weeks 10 and 11
Securing number facts, relationships and calculating
Describing puzzles or problems using numbers, objects and diagrams. Addition and subtraction number sentences (3 + 5 = 8, 9 – 3 = 6) Counting on or back in 2s, 5s and 10s. and using this knowledge to solve practical problems. Learning doubles of all numbers to 10. Using the vocabulary of halves and quarters in relation to numbers, dividing up objects, etc.
